Building & Moving Blog

We've broken ground and the grading for the pole barn is complete...culvert in and cement is in. When Dan gets back I'll post pictures.  Right now he's up there with Gracie & Pod hacking down the wilderness (weeds) that have overgrown the cleared part of the property.  He's also going to put up the first fence off the little house and has finished the gate to the driveway. Pics below... I'll add pics as things progress...stay tuned!

Another view - nice and flat now, some low areas now drain.

Looks better now ...added a few stones...

Looking back toward the house. Cement goes in for the pole barn

And a new temporary fenced area for the dogs

We have WALLS on the Pole Barn!

Next...trusses for the roof

Everyone came up for a visit...but with only one yard and one big room in the house, had to spend a lot of time in crates taking turns being loose in the house.  Theo didn't care - great opportunity to take a nap.  This is how he sleeps...with his mouth open and resting on the crate wire.

We have trusses!

Yooper musings: I wonder if I will be a real yooper when I start to pronounce "paste-e" correctly as "pass- tee "in my head. I am forever correcting myself because it is a pot-pie thingy, not stripper tassles. I haven't tasted one yet - can't get past the rutabagga ingredient - yuck. Otherwise they sound pretty good. The other great mystery of the UP I'm trying to understand is the cooking pots next to the road. Dan thinks this is something to do with the phone system...to me they look like cooking pots with a lid sitting on a post. When I figure out what they really are, I'll let you know. Also will post a photo....I always seem to pass them at 55mph and it's kind of hard to stop and back up to take a picture...but it's one of my weird Yooper goals! I want to know what these things ARE. I think there's one up the road from us.

Roof is on polebarn and it has doors and siding now.  Looks like the dog house will have to wait till next year due to winter and funds. That's ok, time to refine the plan :-).

More pics of the barn:

The door is covered now...forgot to take the camera up!  Snow soon so the outside work stops for winter.

Lots of walks...took 2 leashes to control Simone...Riggs can go without a leash now that he's an old man.

Gracie supervising the siding...a couple of days before she suddenly died.

Everyone took a turn supervising. This is Theodore.
